I've never owned a gun in my life other than a BB gun as a 10 year old. I'm thinking I'm definitely in the minority as far as households who do not have any weapons.

First step I assumed was taking a gun safety class and getting the necessary permits. However when looking the class up online, a gun is listed in the things to bring list.

1. First question is what type of gun should I consider for personal safety? Something simple and reliable.

2. What else should I consider? Safes? I'm guessing there's a fine balance between getting a safe that's not easy to access yet can be opened quickly in the event of an emergency.

3. Carrying a gun in your vehicle? Issues? The class I looked up would certify me to have a concealed carry permit which would allow me to carry a gun in my car according to them. Anything else I need to consider there?

What do you want if for? If it's house protection there really isn't anything compared to the sound of a pump shotgun. You don't need to have accurate aim to shoot an intruder.

The pump sound effect will scare off almost anyone. Door to door salesmen will stop a sales pitch immediately.

9mm if you are looking for concealed carry... Glocks are nice, Berettas work out well.

If you want to go for power but limited rounds i'd go for a .38 smith and wesson, .44 magnum or a .50 desert eagle

Not to get too personal but why do you reckon you need a gun? Do you live in a dangerous area - lots of break-ins and carjackings and such?

I have a lot of friends with guns, I have never owned one and frankly don't understand the need for one. Trust me I'm not talking down to those that pack, it's their right...I just never even considered it as something I would want or need to spend money on.

As far as the shotgun, how many shots do you get?

as far as the concealed carry goes, the class would get me that designation but I can't imagine I'm ever actually going to be walking around with the gun. I think the main benefit for me would be having it in my car. I envision it just being under my drivers seat. But even then, wouldn't I want the gun to be locked up?

Seems like a tough decision. I'm definitely not going to leave a loaded gun in my car not locked up. But then in the 1 in a 100 chance I need it, I can't imagine I'd have time to reach down for it and get out of a locked case.

You never know Harry... I mean, danger of getting in trouble in your own home can happen to anyone, ANYONE! Is always good to have at least 1 gun, and melee weapons/knifes stored in all rooms of your house. Better safe than sorry.

It happens to be an improved version of the CZ 75b. The SP-01 has shocked the world of combat shooting time and time again. The SP-01 is currently unmatched and that is why it belongs at the top of any list of the best 9mm pistols.

Gun should always be loaded, ready to be used with the safety on. That of course is a big no no if you have kids with access to said gun.

I actually live in a very safe city. Especially considering I lived in Memphis for a few years (definitely should have had one then). I live in the south and feel like almost everyone I know has at least 5 guns (of course, they're mostly big hunters).

Maybe ive just been watching the news too much lately. Maybe it's because I had my first child recently. It just seems like something maybe worth having just in case of that worst case scenario.

I haven't made the decision yet though.

You are right imo news or no news you need a good 9mm and learn to use it on a reg thing at your local shooting range, you will be surprise once you have did this, why you waited so long.again once you have a gun , you will not leave home without it

Thanks for input ckid. Will definitely check out the model you posted above.
The more I think about it, I really think I would just keep it in a locked bedside table. I just think putting it in my car unsecured is asking for trouble. Not gonna do that. Putting it in my car but locked up would probably defeat the purpose. Maybe not though.
